Gunnar Biilmann Petersen

Architect, 1879 - 1968

Gunnar Biilmann Petersen is one of the most important figures in the history of Danish design. He trained at the Royal Danish Academy of Fine Arts' School of Decorative Art and went on to work as an architect. However, his most prominent contribution to the world of art was in the field of graphic arts.

His work is eclectic, ranging from graphics, posters, bank notes and company logos to the layout of Jens Olsen's World Clock in Copenhagen City Hall.

Biilmann Petersen's output also included many proposed designs for Le Klint table lamps, some of which are still in the product range.

Model 343

The beautiful classic glass lamp Model 343 was designed in 1962 by Gunnar Biilmann-Petersen. The lamp is specially designed for the classic hand-folded lampshades. The lamp base is made of transparent glass, which makes the lamp cord visible as a black exclamation point. The lamp is currently available in green, but has previously been on the market in different glass colours. Its simple shape corresponds well with the white pleated lampshades. Model 343's lamp base was for many years the only colorful element in the collection consisting of white lampshades and lamp bases in wood, brass and steel, and it is therefore not surprising that it was designed by a colour-conscious graphic artist.
